Day 5 Tuesday february 14. From Perote to Las Vigas and back over Canada Morelos to Tehuacan.
After an exciting evening and another cold night in bed we drive out of Perote to the East over the mex.140 in to the state of Vera Cruz and 4 km east of Las Vigas we arrive at the type locality for Agave obscura in a Lava flow, after having braekfast acrosse the street we took many nice pictures of this Agave from under the trees! Now we take the road back to Perote from there to Zacatepec via Alchichica arriving at the Type locality for Agave horrida ssp.perotensis. Again taking a lot of pictures of many different forms of A. horrida ssp.perotensis.Also here we found hundreds of Mammillaria haageana. Back on the street we have a nice meeting with local people. One man likes to give me a handshake, when he doing this I thinking on Mr. Two Shovels in Lexmont. After this stop for about two hours we made our way to Puebla, via Cuatepec from here we continue towards Tehuacan, as we approach Canada Morelos we stopped and found a beautiful form of Agave potatorum but first we found also Agave salmiana var. ferox and only one plant of Agave triangularis. We are at an altitude of 2380 meter. It was in the evening we arrive in the city of Tehuacan and finding our accomodation for the night at the Hotel Solei iin the centre, but there was only room for 5 persons...................... but Bertus slept on the floor!
